DIY rope baubles
Around the holidays, we throw away a lot together. From wrapping paper to plastic bling for the tree: the mountain of waste grows every year. By reusing or pimping up decorations, you not only save money, but also resources and emissions. And believe us: homemade Christmas decorations are just so much more fun. You make something unique that no one else has and that makes you happy. Besides, this DIY is really easy. You don't have to be a tinkerer. With some string, glue and old baubles, you're all set. And because it is a repetitive job, it is also ideal to do with children. Turn on a cosy Christmas playlist, put an old newspaper on the table and before you know it, you have a whole collection of new ‘rope balls’ for the tree.

DIY Christmas baubles making with string: this is how to give old baubles a new look.
Christmas DIY: spruce up old baubles with string
Tools
- old baubles
- rope or strong wool
- white glue (tacky glue, wood glue) or a glue gun
- brush
- large cap or glass to put the ball on
Instructions
- Start at the top at the hook of the bauble. Generously coat the top part (about a quarter of the ball) with glue.
- Wrap the rope around the ball. Make sure to connect well so that nothing more of the ball can be seen. Press the rope tightly.
- Continue spreading and keep wrapping. Work in pieces and continue until you are just over halfway through the ball.
- From this point on, it gets a little trickier to hold the ball. Put it upside down on a glass or cap, with the already wrapped part down. This makes it easier to continue working.
- When you are almost at the end, cut the rope. Spread the last piece generously with glue and press firmly in place. Leave to dry thoroughly.
